Beachfront Luxury at Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort

Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort is a Marriott-branded resort hotel located in Onna Village, northern Okinawa. It’s situated along a beautiful beach, with many other resort hotels in the area.

The image below shows a view of Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort from National Route 58. It’s a grand hotel set slightly back from the road.

Inside the Deluxe Room: Main Tower Highlights

For this stay, I booked a “Deluxe Room” in the Main Tower. (Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort features the Main Tower, opened in 1987, and the South Tower, a newer addition completed in 2016.)

Thanks to the benefits of my Marriott Bonvoy American Express Premium Card (formerly SPG Amex Card), I was upgraded from a standard “Deluxe Room (2nd-5th floors)” to a “High-Floor Deluxe Room” on the 6th-9th floors.

The room features white walls complemented by dark wood furnishings. Although the Main Tower dates back to 1987, its vintage design adds a unique charm that I personally found appealing.

It’s a twin room with two semi-double beds, each 120 cm wide.

The balcony side is furnished with a sofa and a rocking chair.

On the table, there was a Beni-imo tart, a benefit from my Marriott Bonvoy American Express Premium Card (formerly SPG Amex Card).

In addition to the usual Gold Elite benefits, the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Premium Card (formerly SPG Amex Card) offered unique perks, such as free parking and complimentary rentals of beach parasols and deck chairs.

The wall features built-in shelves designed with circular and arched motifs.

The shelf, illuminated like a full moon, held an electric kettle and complimentary mineral water.

The lower drawer contained complimentary coffee, tea, cups, and the electric kettle.

The refrigerator was empty, and there was no minibar. However, a shop on the first floor and a vending machine corner on the second floor made it easy to buy supplies.

The desk also doubled as a TV stand.

The round chair was quite striking.

This is the desk drawer.

It contained pajamas.

A safety box and laundry bag were also provided.

There was a built-in luggage rack, which was very convenient.

A view of the entrance from inside the room.

A closet space was located right next to the entrance.

Although it lacked doors, it offered ample space.

The closet included slippers, take-home sandals, and shoe care supplies.

The floor plan of the 7th floor, where I stayed, revealed a unique trapezoidal shape.

Balcony Views That Capture the Beauty of Okinawa’s Coast

The spacious balcony was one of the room’s highlights.

From the balcony, you can see the beach and enjoy a panoramic view of the East China Sea.

The balcony was well-separated from neighboring rooms with solid walls, ensuring privacy.

Luxury Bathroom Features at Sheraton Okinawa

The bathroom featured a window on the guest room side, making it bright and open. The blinds could be adjusted for privacy.

A sink was centrally located, with the toilet and bath area on either side.

The round, illuminated mirror was a standout feature.

The amenities were divided into two boxes and included toothbrushes, cotton swabs, hair ties, razors, brushes, and towels.

The hairdryer was a Panasonic model (though the airflow was somewhat weak).

The bathroom included a bathtub, which was very comfortable, along with a rain shower.

The shampoo, conditioner, and body soap were provided in refillable dispensers.

The toilet was equipped with a bidet (washlet).

Room Details That Define Comfort and Style

Let’s take a closer look at the details of the guest room. The bedside table had a lighting control panel, a telephone, and a notepad.

The control panel featured a nostalgic design.

The curtains had a colorful striped pattern.

The built-in shelves were illuminated with lighting resembling a full moon.

The desk was equipped with universal outlets and USB charging ports.

There was a card slot and control panel near the entrance.

The floor was not carpeted but made of a hard mat material resembling poolside flooring—a unique choice for a hotel room.

The walls were painted white.

This is the hotel information leaflet I received at check-in.

The hotel offers many activities, so this leaflet was very helpful.

How to Get to Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort

The hotel is accessible via National Route 58. As there are no trains, you can reach it by rental car, bus, or taxi.

The hotel’s grand driveway came into view.

There was a Shisa statue along with a Sheraton sign.

The Main Tower, viewed from the front, has a unique pyramid-like structure that widens toward the base.

From the driveway, you walk through a corridor to enter the hotel.

The Grand Atrium: A Stunning Architectural Feature

Upon entering the Main Tower, the check-in counter is right in front of you.

The staff guided me, and I completed the check-in process.

One of the building’s most notable features is its large atrium. It spans from the ground floor to the top floor, with all guest room corridors facing the atrium.

At the base of the atrium, there was a water feature with sofas and other seating.

Next to the hotel entrance, there was a pond with fish, rays, and shrimp swimming in it.

I couldn’t tell if the shrimp were real or decorative.

Discovering the Unique Shared Corridors

After completing check-in, I headed to my room.

The elevator hall on the guest room floor was spacious and had a sofa set.

There was also an outdoor smoking area.

It was a well-designed smoking area.

The corridors faced the atrium, giving them an open and airy feel. The design had a distinct “Showa-era” vibe, which added a nostalgic charm.

Spectacular Atrium Views from Above

Here are a few photos of the atrium taken from the upper floors.

Only the top floor had a skywalk across the atrium.

Shared Facilities: Activities and Convenience for Every Guest

The hotel offers a wide range of shared facilities. On the first floor, there was a shop selling souvenirs, food, and other items.

It was as well-stocked as a convenience store.

A street piano was available.

There were rooms for table tennis and darts.

Guests could use a co-working space for free.

One of the activities offered was a craft-making experience in a dedicated room.

There was a free internet corner, and next to it, a free gaming corner.

On the second floor, there was a coin laundry and a vending machine area.

Relaxation and Wellness at “Nuchigusui” Spa

I visited the adjacent Wellness & Spa “Nuchigusui.”

This facility includes a pool, fitness center, sauna, massage rooms, and spa.

The indoor pool was spacious and connected to an outdoor pool.

There was a fitness gym on the second floor.

The view was excellent, allowing you to work out while overlooking the beach.

Beachfront Fun and Exciting Activities

The Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort has a beach right in front of it.

As a benefit of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Premium Card (formerly SPG Amex Card), I was able to rent a beach parasol and deck chairs for free. (Unfortunately, the parasol couldn’t be opened due to strong winds that day.)

From the beach, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the East China Sea.

The Okinawan sea is crystal clear and beautiful. (Having lived in Singapore, where the sea was often murky, I truly appreciated the pristine waters here.)

A neighboring building houses a café where you can also book various marine sports activities.

There was also a zipline.

I saw people enjoying jet skiing and windsurfing.

Just being able to spend time on this beach made my stay at Sheraton Okinawa worth it.

Savoring a Dinner Buffet at “SENSES” Restaurant

For dinner, I enjoyed a buffet at the hotel’s restaurant, “SENSES.”

The restaurant’s design had a retro “Showa-era” vibe, but the buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, all of which were delicious.

Immersive Projection Mapping in the Grand Atrium

After dinner, projection mapping began in the atrium just in time.

The projection mapping, utilizing the large atrium, was truly spectacular.

The fountain was also synchronized with the show.

Multiple large projectors were used to create the visuals.

Room Rates at Sheraton Okinawa: Affordable Luxury Awaits

・The room rates vary significantly depending on the season or day of the week. A single-day difference can easily result in price changes of several thousand yen.

・My stay at Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort cost approximately 30,000 yen per night (including tax).
